WE ARE QR_

In 2017 QR_ turned global, with expansions into the US and Asia Pacific. The business grew rapidly, culminating in a nomination, and subsequent shortlisting for a British American Business (BAB) Transatlantic Growth award. As part of the application process we were asked to provide a short video about us and what we do. Watch it here to learn more about the people who make QR_ what it is.

Meet Some Of Our Team

Background & Education

I spent most of my life growing up in Teesside - I hadn't traveled much when I was younger so for university I took the jump and moved to Bath. It seemed like a big deal to me at least! It was a difficult change for me, but one of the best decisions I ever made. I graduated with a First Class Masters Degree in Mathematics.

Any previous experience?

At university I tutored first year maths undergraduates for my department. I loved it - it really helped me develop my confidence while doing something I was passionate about. A summer during university, I did a placement in a Transport Planning role in Manchester. The placement really helped me narrow down what I enjoyed in a job and what I should pursue as a career after university.

Why you joined QR?

I liked the avenues that QR can offer an employee. You look at the job title of "Project Analyst" and wonder what that entails but there is so much it can be! Whether it's more data analysis, project coordination or something more technical - QR allowed me to find out what I enjoyed, and also what I am good at - and then the opportunities for me to grow and develop these areas.

Your early experiences

My first experience of QR was at the selection day. I was very nervous but the people there were incredibly lovely. It's only looking back now that the people I was talking to were people high up in the company - you could never tell, they treat you just like a friend.- The range of projects you've done I've been really lucky to have been in a few clients and projects in my time at QR_. I started at Team Woking doing some report work for the Passive Safety department, moving quickly onto the SAP migration team and then the SAP Go Live Support team. After this, I moved up to the Midlands team and worked in JLR for 6 months, then Aston Martin for 3 months. I jumped at the opportunity to go back to Woking to lead the BoM Coordination of the Motorsport department. I'd say this was my favourite project so far - I like that I can combine my project coordination skills and my technical skills and see the effect my work is having on the department instantly.

What you're most passionate about in QR?

I am most passionate that QR supports and encourages the wellbeing of their employees. Whether that is via the Wellbeing initiate or through the friendly culture of the company. There is really a culture of "work hard, play hard" and the social aspect of the company is really refreshing.

A QR highlight

I was super lucky to get a ride home (Coventry) from Woking in a McLaren 570S. It was pretty surreal to be driving down the M40 and watching people take videos and photos as you drive past... I love that QR gives the opportunities to build relationships with the client that gives you situations like that. I was so super super lucky!!!

Background & Education

In the words of Devlin, “I'm hailing from the Essex and the East London border line” . Born and raised in Romford, I grew up with a passion for Maths and Problem Solving. I finished school with 3A*s and an A at A-level (and an A* Extended Project rambling on about “What is infinity?”). From there, I headed to Warwick University where I graduated with a 2:1 BSc in Mathematics in 2016.

Any previous experience?

I worked within Admissions/Information Services at my local college every summer whilst at University. The role focused on enrolling new students, which set me up well with Data and Personal skills.

Why you joined QR?

QR couples technical excellence with communication skills which really appealed to me. With my passion for data and “the gift of the gab”, I wanted to work somewhere that I could utilise both.

The range of projects you've done
  • October 2016 - On the bench based in Ford Dunton.
  • November 2016 - BOM Validation prior to Maxim/SAP Cutover at a High Powered Sports Manufacturer in Woking.
  • December 2016 to April 2017 - Project Co-ordinator for NGDV (Emerald Automotive prototype bid for the new USPS Van).
  • May to September 2017 - RRR Co-ordinator at Emerald with Frey Ejaz, where we successfully helped LEVC pass their RRR/ELV Audit.
  • October to December 2017 - Electrical Functional Group Co-ordinator at Emerald Automotive, specifically DVP (Design Verification Plan).
  • January 2018 to Present - ECF Analyst for Ford, based in Cologne (really need to work on my German.. although think I have got the beer drinking bit down).
Your early experiences

I love the array of opportunities QR provides, which isn’t limited to different projects or clients but to Internal workstreams as well. I have helped organise Team Events, ran a charity initiative, presented on multiple occasions to the whole company on topics of my choice (to name but a few) – and it’s these varied activities which I really enjoy.

Getting the opportunity to take a secondment to Germany. The move was facilitated very well and it’s been amazing getting to work with the German team over here.

Background & Education

Before joining QR_ my background was predominantly in the arts – in 2015 I graduated from Cambridge with a First Class degree in Modern & Medieval Languages (something that seemed an impossibility when I was first applying from a rural state school in the Southwest)! I then went on to work as a Freelance Translator but decided after a while that I was looking for a new challenge, greater sociability (!) and greater responsibility.

Why you joined QR?

Hence why I joined QR!

Your early experiences

My initial impressions at QR were that the learning curve was excitingly steep and the people were amazing. Neither has changed.

The range of projects you've done

I’ve been lucky to work on several very different projects. I initially started working on a Ford BoM validation project with the wonderful team at DDC (Dagenham Diesel Centre), before spending 6 months supporting the Electrical team at Emerald Automotive as they geared up to production of the brand new electric London taxi. The last 5 months have been spent working in the PDM department in Faurecia in their offices just North of Paris.

What you're most passionate about in QR?

I love the fact QR_ always supports growth and development, whether that’s related to a project, expanding your knowledge of the industry, or focusing on your own wellbeing and approach to your work. They give you the autonomy to choose a path that’s right for you, but are always ready to support you with any extra tools or resources you might need along the way.

A QR highlight

QR seems to be amazingly good at hiring smart, sociable, ‘great-to-be-around’ kinda people and one of my favourite memories so far from QR was a karting social organised for the Essex contingency. It turned out I had zero skills when it came to the actual karting, but it was a great opportunity to talk to people who were working on different projects and the atmosphere was brilliant – for me it sums up QR: fantastic people, a supportive environment and fresh challenges!

Theodore Bergstrom
Business Manager - Body Interior Integration
Background & Education

I was born and bred in Stockholm, Sweden, where I went to an international High School. I moved to the UK to attend university, as well as "enjoy" the slightly less dark winters. During my Masters of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London, I spent my spare time chairing the SCUBA club (and doing a lot of diving of course), trying to improve the student experience as a Departmental Representative, and popping into the student union for the occasional pint (or two).

Any previous experience?

I joined QR right out of university, but I did spend time doing internships for a Shanghainese engineering company and a Swedish energy provider. I also believe that being involved in student organisations and clubs provided me with invaluable skills and experiences to succeed in QR. I have to admit, I never thought I would work in the automotive industry until QR made a great case for it, and here I am!

Why you joined QR?

From my MEng degree I had learnt that although I appreciate working in an engineering setting, I much prefer to do the big picture stuff: Project Management, improving processes and procedures, and getting people to work together towards a common goal. QR provided me with a platform to do exactly that and in a fun, refreshing company!

The range of projects you've done

As well as working in CAD structures for Ford Powertrain, I have worked as a Lead Integration Engineer for Interior Trim, focusing on Change Management for Ford Transit Vans.

Your early experiences

My first project was to set up a new way to structure CAD data based on the Bill of Materials for the Ford Powertrain. This involved solving the technical aspects as well as helping the organisation through a culture shift in how we look at CAD. The responsibility I was given, and the experiences I got out of this project, really reinforced my view that QR is the company for me.

What you're most passionate about in QR?

I am very passionate about delivering our projects in a Quite Refreshing way (one of our 4 QRs). I strongly believe that it benefits both us and our clients when we all enjoy what we do. I also care a lot about communications and how it affects everything within a company – feel free to come discuss it with me in a pub if you have a few hours to spare…

A QR highlight

So many to choose from! Organising a Crayfish Party to share the Swedish love for Crayfish and Aquavit with the company and not to forget the times I have received positive feedback regarding my management style and efforts. Warm, fuzzy feelings all around. Also, organising a Crayfish Party to share the Swedish love for Crayfish and Aquavit with the company was amazing.
